For several years now, JMS 8th grade science has had a culminating physics project where students are required to design and build a working catapult that is able to throw a golf ball over a 1 meter high wall.
Catapults must be less than 50 cm in length, width and height. Learning is focused on following energy transfers throughout the system of the catapult.
The last 2 years, we have been doing whole class ongoing investigations into how the catapult came into existence by looking at the trebuchet.
